Biotechnology Havana 2008:
AgBiotechnology: facing huge challenges with new approaches
November 30th to December 5th, 2008, Havana, Cuba

The meetings on Biotechnology organized by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) of Havana, Cuba, started in 1986, when the II International Seminar on Interferon and I on Biotechnology were held in this city, with an attendance of 1,500 delegates from 46 countries. Since 1992 these international congresses have been known as "Biotecnología Habana". Because of the great variety of topics included in these Congresses and the participation of more than 1,000 delegates in each of them, since 1994, a "Biotecnología Habana" Congress is celebrated each year, alternating the topics. In this way, the 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2005 "Biotecnología Habana" Congresses were devoted to the agricultural applications of modern biotechnologies. In parallel to scientific sessions, there is a Commercial exhibition with firms related to this field.
In this occasion, "Biotecnología Habana'08", that to be held from November 30 to December 5, 2008, will be named "AgBiotechnology: facing huge challenges with new approaches" and will be dedicated to the impact of Biotechnology to help to resolve the alimentary and health necessities of the world growing people.
"Biotecnología Habana'08" will surely be a very rewarding scientific time for participants from institutions of all latitudes, which will share an exceptional opportunity for direct exchange of results and points of view, in the best of the environments: a research, development, and production center. With a staff of more than 1,000 employees, excellent research and production facilities, and a commercial branch with worldwide operations, the CIGB ranks as one of the most comprehensive biotech institutes of the World. For the "BIOTECNOLOGIA HABANA" meetings, the CIGB has permanently appointed conference rooms, an area that holds 110 posters simultaneously and an area to Commercial Exhibition.
We hope you will spend a very fruitful time in Havana next November. The environment at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the possibility for scientific exchange will reward the effort to join people from many countries all over the world.

Sincerely,
Organizing Committee
"Biotecnología Habana 2008"
