Monsanto Company is a publicly traded American multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation headquartered in Creve Coeur, Missouri. It's a leading producer of genetically engineered seed and the herbicide glyphosate, which it markets under the Roundup brand. Monsanto has tapped FleishmanHillard (FH) to handle PR duties, amid fierce opposition to the seed giant's genetically modified products. There was a competitive review for the seven-figure brief that focuses heavily on issues management.

Monsanto and FH are both based in St. Louis, and have a strong relationship with one another. FH has worked on branding and comms projects for some of Monsanto's divisions. The company wants to develop a more cohesive communications approach in the wake of recent protests by organizations criticizing the company's promotion of genetically modified crops. This assignment will likely be lead from the U.S., though its scope will be international.
